Combining the practices of digital media and physical theater, Flame Series 1-4 was featured in HERE US, an annual live performance that assembled original works by Denison students of color, across multiple media - slam poetry, dance, animation, and anywhere in between.
Flame Series 1-4 itself is a multimedia project, incorporating movements with projection, atmospheric sound, and spoken words. Aligning with HERE US’s 2023 theme Resistance, the piece visualizes the affective assemblage of the “international student of color” identity on a US campus.

An adaptation of the Greek tragedy by Long Ha Nguyen (XPlusX Studio), the project was sponsored by Goethe Institute in Hanoi. The original Sophocles script was staged in the form of a multi-window video streamed via Discord, unfolding in tandem with interactive chat channels that told other stories surrounding Antigone’s tragedy. The production took the virtual space as both a practice and concept, in response to and inspired by the pandemic and intense social and political atmosphere in Vietnam at the moment.
